POLICE GUN DOWN FUGITIVE CAPTAIN, MAKE NEW ARRESTS FOR PLANNED SUBVERSION!

Captain John Conteh, a fugitive on police wanted persons' list for the failed November 26, 2023 coup has been gunned down by the police for making another clean escape attempt.

Captain John Conteh was discovreed in the morning hours of Wednesday, April 17th, hiding at Mayenkineh, Calaba Town, in the east end of Freetown at his mother's abode.

John Conteh was rooted out of his hideout where he had been holed up since and was about to be ferried to the Jui Detention centre when he attempted to escape. According to the police, he took advantage of the fact that the cuffs were loosened off the wrists since a suspect cannot be ferried across a river in cuffs to deal a heavy blow at one of the detailed police personnel on board seated closer to him. After hitting the officer to the ground, he reportedly jumped off the van to his heels. He was, however, shot at and died on the way to the hospital.

His mother was also arrested for harbouring.

In another development, police say they have made series of arrests of ex-service and serving personnel of both the military and the Sierra Leone Police for allegedly planning another subversion. They stand accused of planning to disturb the peace of the state between Ramadan (Pray) Day and April 27, marking the country's Independence Anniversary.

Some of those arrested were among escapees sought after by the security for their involvement in last year's upheavals. They were arrested in various locations in the Western Area.

No further details were supplied by the police on the arrests, but they promised to update the public on developments in their subsequent weekly press briefings.
