Captain John Conteh, a fugitive on police wanted persons' list for the failed November 26, 2023 coup has been gunned down by the police for making another clean escape attempt. Captain John Conteh was discovreed in the morning hours of Wednesday, April 17th, hiding at Mayenkineh, Calaba Town, in the east end of Freetown at his mother's abode.  John Conteh was rooted out of his hideout where he had been holed up since and was about to be ferried to the Jui Detention centre when he attempted to escape. According to the police, he took advantage of the fact that the cuffs were loosened off the wrists since a suspect cannot be ferried across a river in cuffs to deal a heavy blow at one of the detailed police personnel on board seated closer to him.
